A great-great-grandson of John and Priscilla Alden, Judah (1750-1845) was born and raised in the Alden family home in Duxbury. He helped lead the town’s company of Minutemen and then served as an officer in the Continental Army throughout the Revolutionary War and commanded an integrated unit of light infantry.

After the war, Judah became a merchant, served in town and state offices, and from 1829 until his death in 1845, was President of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati. The Society was founded by officers who served in the Continental Army to preserve the ideals of the Revolutionary War, and it continues today as a hereditary and charitable organization.

Stephen O’Neill is an author, educator, public historian, and museum professional with thirty years of experience and expertise in Early American History. He researched and curated the archaeology exhibit of artifacts from John and Priscilla Alden’s 17th century homesite, which is on display at Alden House, and published an exhibit catalogue.

The program is sponsored by the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati and the Duxbury Cultural Council, a local agency, funded by Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. Admission is free.
