The deadline for the 2026 Donnell B. Young Scholarship is fast approaching on March 1. This $2,500 award is open to current members of the Alden Kindred who are certified lineage descendants.
For nearly four decades, the Donnell B. Young Scholarship has supported Alden descendants in pursuing their educational goals while honoring the legacy of John and Priscilla Alden. Established in 1985 in honor of the father of longtime AKA member Barbara Itz, now 98, the scholarship remains a cherished part of the Alden Kindred’s commitment to future generations.
First awarded in 1987, the scholarship has awarded over $40,000 to lineage members, beginning with inaugural recipients Susan Edmunds and Marna Cowens. What started as a $500 award has grown into a $2,500 scholarship for a lineage descendant who is also a member of the Alden Kindred. The 2025 recipient was Abigail Craig, who is attending the University of Connecticut.
