About Donnell B. Young
Past Scholarship Recipients

Each year the Alden Kindred of America, Inc. offer to a graduating high school senior (who must be at the time of application, a member of the Alden Kindred), a scholarship to attend a college or university of his or her choice. This scholarship is named after Donnell B. Young, PhD, a long-time member and former President of the Alden Kindred who died in 1989 at the age of 101. Dr. Young was, for many years, an advocate of this program.

SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS:  The basic requirements at the present time to receive this scholarship are: (1) you MUST be a member of the Alden Kindred of America, Inc.(all lineage membership requirements must be completed at least 6 months prior to the deadline for submission of the scholarship application); (2) you MUST be a graduating high school senior planning to attend college after graduation; and (3) you MUST properly complete and submit a scholarship application so that it is received by the Scholarship Committee on or before the due date of March 1 of the year the scholarship is to be awarded.  The Committee does not make exceptions to this rule.  If you do not hear from the Committee by the end of May, you may assume that you were not awarded the Scholarship.

The Donnell B. Young Scholarship is presented to a member of the Alden Kindred (normally a Junior Member or Life Member) and therefore must be a descendant of John and Priscilla Alden. The amount presented has typically been one thousand dollars.

There is a deadline for submitting applications, March 1st each year. A winner is determined by May and announced at the Alden Kindred Annual Meeting on the first Saturday of August.
